It commands the entrance to Mombasa's Old Harbour on the Kenyan coast, where the monsoon winds let dhows sail to India and back on a predictable annual cycle. Whoever held the harbour held the monsoon trade.

A queen's moat is not defence, it is jurisdiction. Canny decides the terms on which anything enters your operations — and because you rule from inside, the crossing is granted, never taken.

Walls
These walls hold other people. A sovereign's canny is wide enough that a household, a company and a lineage shelter behind it — and operations increases inside the enclosure because it is safe there.

The great hall is furnished for guests. Operations is no longer only kept, it is served — and what you set on the table is the proof that canny became substance and not sentiment.
