The moat is deep now, because convicted has become your nature and the gate answers without you. What used to argue at the drawbridge no longer reaches it. Embrace is the water moving — a moat is only alive when it moves.

Walls
The walls are load-bearing: convicted now carries weight it did not use to carry. This is the architecture of the second degree — the attribute built in, so your object can be stacked on it without cracking.
