The stone read as the word

Zircon crystals survive everything — mountains eroding, rock melting, oceans coming and going — and they keep their internal growth zones intact. Geologists read a whole planet's timeline out of one grain because the grain stayed coherent.

Its structure locks uranium in place, which is why it can be dated so precisely. Coherence is what makes a thing legible later.

What it is carried for

  • Carried when the argument, the plan and the life must all agree.
  • Held for keeping the thread through a long work.
