The stone read as the word

Red jasper is the least glamorous quartz and the most used: dense, tough, uniform, and it takes an edge and a polish without complaint. Craftsmen chose it for objects that had to survive being used.

Construction is heaping together — struere. This is the stone of what actually exists at the end of the day that did not exist at the beginning of it.

What it is carried for

  • Carried for the day something must be finished, not discussed.
  • Held for work meant to be used, not admired.
