The stone read as the word

Amber begins as a running resin and becomes gem only by losing everything volatile: time drives off the light compounds and polymerises what stays. Concentration is a subtraction process.

Whatever the resin was holding when it hardened, it is still holding — a gnat, a petal, a bubble of ancient air. What you concentrate on gets kept.

What it is carried for

  • Carried for the single-task hour.
  • Held when attention must be reduced down to one thing.
