The Law of Position

Jewel of the day · Amethyst. C is who she is. E is how she works. O is what she holds and increases.

Spoken on this day

Day Twenty-Five is an IN day, and it is the Law of Position. Position: the place a thing occupies, the side it stands on, the posture it is held in, and the standing it carries. To position is to set a thing deliberately where it will do what you intend. She comes in to think, and what she is thinking about is placement — what goes on which side.

This day is not wisdom by itself. Wisdom only appears when the Twenty-Fifth is added to the Twenty-Third: conscientiousness, the ability to equate, knowing how to deal with opposites — being the opposite — and understanding the Law of Paradox. Twenty-One, Twenty-Three, Twenty-Five and Twenty-Seven line up into one spine: logic, reason, wisdom, being wise. Paradox taught her that both sides are real. Position teaches her where to stand.

The Adventure CEO becomes contemplative. What she does with it is to entertain — she can hold a thing in the mind without seizing it and without throwing it out. She entertains what belongs on each side of the equation. And notice the change in the third word: what she has on the other side is no longer output. It is an outcome. Output is what came off the machine. An outcome is what actually came of it.

Then the Architect becomes calculative. She can turn the thing over in her mind, move the parts, manipulate the order, and see how it should work before she spends anything building it. What she does now is estimate — she puts a number and a date on a thing that has not happened yet. And what she becomes in this place is the outcomer: the one an outcome can be trusted to. Not the one who hopes for it. The one who brings it in.

In the Sovereign she becomes comprehensive. This is understanding — she sees the whole of it, all sides, all costs, everything that touches everything else. That is wisdom: not more information, but understanding that holds together. And what she does with it is expound. She no longer only estimates the future; she opens a thing up, adds upon it, lays it out so others can walk through it, and makes futurity itself the gossamer thread — the fine, deliberate line along which a potential outcome is drawn into being.

So she expounds on a thing, adds upon it, and what she increases are outcomes — plural. Outcomes for herself, for the people who came to her, for the business she creates, and in every dealing she touches. This is the virtuous woman of Proverbs: she opens her mouth with wisdom, she considers a field, she perceives that her merchandise is good, and everything that leaves her hand arrives somewhere.

The test of the day: an idea entertained but never estimated stays a daydream, and an estimate given without comprehension is a guess in a nice dress. Contemplative becomes calculative becomes comprehensive. She entertains, she estimates, she expounds. One outcome becomes outcomes.
