The stone read as the word

Nephrite is not the hardest gem, yet it is the hardest to break. Millions of tiny fibres lock together in every direction, so force entering the stone is shared instead of concentrated. Cultures who had no metal made axes and adzes from it that outlasted bronze.

That is capability precisely: not showy hardness, but structure that holds under load. The power is in the weave, present whether or not anyone tests it today.
