The stone read as the word

Most gems are cut to hide their second colour. Andalusite is cut to show it: turn the stone and green, gold and red appear in the same face. Cutters call it the mosaic effect, and the best stones are the ones with nothing to hide.

One variety, chiastolite, grows a dark cross inside itself — a stone that came out of pressure with a mark on it. To be challengeable is to invite the turning and still be whole from every side.

What it is carried for

  • Carried into rooms where her plan will be tested from several sides.
  • Held for a build that welcomes the question.
