The stone read as the word

Carnelian was the seal stone of the ancient world because hot wax will not stick to it — a stone that signs and lets go. Soldiers wore it for courage, and Egyptians set it over the heart in burial.

Its colour deepens in sunlight. Courage behaves the same way: it is not born full strength, it darkens with exposure.

What it is carried for

  • Carried on the day she has to go first.
  • Held for nerve that grows the more light it takes.
