The stone read as the word
Sugilite's formula is a committee: potassium, sodium, iron, manganese, aluminium and lithium all in one lattice. Manganese gives the purple, and only when the other elements hold their positions. Coordination is what makes the colour possible.
It was found in 1944 but no one saw gem purple until manganese-rich material turned up decades later. Some arrangements take a long time to assemble.
What it is carried for
- Carried for running many moving parts on one day.
- Held when the calendar, the family and the work must all line up.
