The stone read as the word

Ammolite is a creature that became a gem. An ammonite died in the Cretaceous sea, was buried under Alberta bentonite, and its shell kept the microscopic platelet stacks that split light into red, green and violet. Nothing was added; something was made out of what was already there.

That is the creative act in mineral form: the material was not replaced, it was raised. It is also one of the youngest gems and one of only a few organic ones — proof that new kinds of beauty are still being formed.
