How the stone came to be
Sunstone glitters from the inside for one reason: thousands of microscopic plates of copper or hematite are suspended within the crystal, all lying on the same planes, so when light enters it strikes them at once and the whole stone flashes. The effect is called schiller, or aventurescence. It is not a reflection off the top — it is fire held in the body of the stone, released when it is turned toward light.
The Vikings are said to have carried a sólarsteinn — a sunstone — to navigate. Held up to an overcast sky, a translucent feldspar splits light and reveals where the sun actually stands, even when the sun cannot be seen at all. That is the Law of Positivity in one object: a bright instrument that finds the sun on a grey day, and steers by it.
Oregon sunstone is the state gem of Oregon and one of the few gems coloured by pure copper. In Greece it was traded as a stone of the sun god and thought to carry the sun's own substance; in India it was set to draw fortune and protection. Every tradition landed on the same idea — this is a stone that gives light out, not one that hoards it.
What it is carried for
- The stone of joy and cheer — carried to lift heaviness and to restore the enjoyment of one's own life.
- A leadership stone: worn for benevolent authority, warmth in command, and the confidence to go first.
- Traditionally carried for good fortune and abundance, said to open the way where doors have felt closed.
- Kept for vitality and enlivening — a stone of energy given to others rather than drawn from them.
- Paired with moonstone in old lore: sunstone gives out, moonstone draws in — an OUT day stone.
As you live this law, you become this stone
The jewel is not a souvenir. Every element of Sunstone is an element you gain as you walk the Law of the Positivity — not by admiring the stone, but by living it until you are made of the same thing.
You gain · Fire held inside
Copper platelets inside the crystal make the flash. Living Positivity, your cheer stops being a surface and becomes interior — cheerful becomes cheery, a trait rather than a performance.
You gain · The navigator's stone
Held to a grey sky, sunstone shows where the sun truly is. This is the White Sword: you find the good, and steer by it, on the days no one else can see it.
You gain · It gives light out
Sunstone is the giving half of the old sun-and-moon pair. As you enliven, you become companionate — a woman whose presence brings a room, a household and a business to life.
You gain · Copper, the conductor
Its colour comes from copper, the metal that carries current. You become the conductor of optimums: the best conditions do not happen to you, they pass through you into everyone standing near.
